Standardized Gas Pressure Gauge

One of the more important parts about using gas for fuel or other reasons that is often overlooked is the gas pressure gauge. These come in a variety of different shapes and sizes and, provided they are manufacturer approved, and give you the amount of pressure that is in the gas storage tank at a glance. This is true of natural gas, as well as some of the more popular gases that are used in general, such as propane. There are several things that need to be considered, however, when deciding to use or perhaps to replace the gas pressure gauge on one of your tanks.

The first thing that you need to think about is the type and sizes of gauges that you are going to be using. It would do no good to have a propane storage tank at your house that has a pressure of 100 pounds per square inch and you have a gas pressure gauge that only measures it up to 30 or 40. What will typically happen, is that you will break this type of the gas gauge rather quickly or you may get an inaccurate reading, which could lead to some serious problems. Make sure that the pressure limit on the gauge matches or exceeds the amount of pressure that needs to be measured by you.

Replacing one of these gauges requires that you get one that is approved by the manufacturer. There are a multitude of different gas tanks that are available, each of which is going to have some kind of a different fitting. Although there are some universal fittings, such as the one quarter inch threaded fitting, there may be some other types which are specifically made for one type of tank. This is especially true when ever you are dealing with natural gas, or some other type of extremely volatile gas that needs to be measured accurately at all times.

You can find these gas gauges at a number of different locations. The manufacturer will probably have gauges that are available through their website or for sale at your local gas and electric providers. It may also be necessary, however, for you to special order one of these directly from the factory. From time to time, you may be able to find a gauge that is going to fit your particular needs for sale on eBay, or at some other online website where it may be used. It's perfectly fine to use a pressure gauge that has been used, but you would want to make sure that it is operational and accurate.

Finally, you would want to make sure that you never lift your tank by the gas pressure gauge. Although it is threaded and more than likely will not come loose, it may loosen up the connection enough that you could cause a natural gas leak. This can be extremely dangerous, and can lead to asphyxiation or perhaps even an explosion. Always make sure that you treat the pressure gauge with respect and that you choose one which is properly fitted, it will help you to ensure your safety.
